The haircare industry has exploded in recent years and we are seeing lots of new brands on the market. One such brand is Only Curls. A UK based company who focusses on curl care and natural ingredients. Read on for a full review of all Only Curls products.

Curly Girls are on the rise and thankfully, many brands now cater for curls specifically.

In this review of Only Curls, I will be focussing on product quality, curl ability, ingredients and curl type suitability.

Is Only Curls really what it’s cracked up to be? Let’s find out.

A bit about Only Curls

Only Curls is a London based company and was founded by Lizzie Carter.

According to Only Curl’s official website, Lizzie started her small family run business from the comfort of her home back in 2016 and has since grown it to include thousands of happy customers!

The idea behind Only Curls was to create a brand designed specifically for Curly Girls.

All of their products are free from harsh chemicals and Lizzie’s goal is to inspire Curly Girls to forget about straighteners and embrace their natural curls.

Only Curls Review

All of Only Curls products are produced in the UK and they only use recyclable bio-plastic bottles.

Furthermore, Only Curls are never tested on animals and the ingredients list contains only the best of ingredients.

Only Curls and the Curly Girl Method

If you’re wondering if Only Curls products are safe to use on the Curly Girl Method, then I’ve got great news. They are!

All Only Curls products are free from the following:

  • SULFATES
  • SILICONES
  • PARABENS
  • ANIMAL TESTING
  • MINERAL OIL
  • PARAFFIN

This makes Only Curls CG friendly and the brand is already receiving excellent feedback from their customers.

This is one of the main reasons why I wanted to write this Only Curls review.

“Hair is always silky and nourished after using. It’s not a heavy conditioner that weighs hair down but it manages to feed my dry ends perfectly every time.” – ONLY CURLS ALL CURL CONDITIONER

Love these products. I would not return to my old products. My curls look so soft and bouncy. I read about these in a newspaper article and decided to give them a go and I’m super happy I did. The company are lovely to deal with.”

The Only Curls formula also includes natural ingredients such as coconut oil, jojoba oil, Aloe leaf juice and Shea butter.

The CG method is a way of taking care of your curls using products that are much safer for your hair and which cause less damage.

This includes avoiding products that contain sulfates as well as drying alcohols and silicone.

Most Curly Girl’s, therefore, avoid shampoo as most of them contain sulfates.

You can also purchase low-poo shampoos. These do not contain sulfates but contain other harsh cleansing chemicals.

To understand why these should also be avoided, read this article I wrote about the problem with low-poo shampoos.

Most Curly Girl approved products, therefore, are made with natural ingredients.

This is no different with Only Curls and I’ll go into more detail about this in my review of each product.

A note On Affordability

All Only Curls regular-sized products are £16 each which is on the pricier side.

If there is a downfall to this range, this would be it as you could easily go through each product within two to three weeks.

That is already £64 and I personally don’t think this is manageable. At least not for me.

I would, therefore, recommend mixing the Only Curls products with other more affordable products.

For example, if you like the Curl Cleanser, use this alongside a cheaper conditioner.

And if you love the Only Curls gel, invest in this and use a different brand for cleansing and conditioning.

If you can afford it though, no one is stopping you from snapping up all of their products!

Let’s have a look at the review of Only Curls products.

ONLY CURLS ALL CURL CLEANSER REVIEW

Only Curls Review

A cleanser should always be free from sulfate as this can strip your scalp of its natural oils.

This sulfate-free cleanser from Only Curls is gentle on curls as well as your scalp.

It is a one of a kind formula that cleanses your hair whilst preserving moisture in your hair and the natural oils in your scalp.

The special blend contains both avocado and kukui oils which are moisturising and soothing.

As most Curly Girls know, knots and tangles can easily form and this cleanser helps untangle messy hair whilst adding shine.

PRODUCT QUALITY

You can’t really knock the product quality in any way. It is made in the UK with natural ingredients and has a light fragrance of coconut and lime.

I also love that Only Curls bottles are recyclable which makes me feel good when thinking about all the plastic we use.

CURL ABILITY

I follow the Curly Girl Method myself and normally try to use natural cleansers when washing my hair.

This could be an apple cider vinegar rinse or even just a dash of lemon with some conditioner.

However, sometimes you just want something a bit more ‘luxurious’, and the Only Curls cleanser works well here.

You really only need a tiny amount and knowing that the product is sulphate free is brilliant.

It makes hair feel soft and bouncy and it holds up very well in warm weather and humidity. This cleanser also helps reduce frizz which is always a huge plus.

The texture is lightweight and it foams up quite nicely. It doesn’t feel heavy but rather silky soft. And it smells divine!

The Only Curl Cleanser definitely helps define curls and manage unruly locks.

You really only need a small amount of this cleanser and so I am inclined to say that if you could only afford one product from the Only Curls range, this should be it.

Particularly if you’re just starting out on the Curly Girl Method, this cleanser will help get rid of residue from previous use of silicone-based products.

HOW TO USE

Take a small amount of the Only Curls cleanser and apply to wet hair. Massage through your hair, ideally with a scalp brush.

A scalp brush is a super-effective way of removing leftover styling products from your hair and scalp. This is also known as product build-up.

I use this scalp brush from Amazon. It’s cheap, very effective and I never do a wash without it!

After washing your hair with the cleanser, continue your wash routine with a conditioner.

ONLY CURLS ALL CURL CONDITIONER REVIEW

Only Curls Review

PRODUCT QUALITY

The Only Curls All Conditioner is infused with a special blend of oils including Jojoba, Coconut, Avocado, Kukui, Argan and Macadamia.

This intense oil infusion naturally moisturises your curls, adding shine while reducing frizz.

Like all Only Curls products, the All Curls Conditioner is manufactured in the UK and the bottles are recyclable.

Unlike many conditioners, this product is very lightweight. Heavy conditioners can weigh down your curls and leave product residue. The All Curls Conditioner, however, feeds dry ends and leaves hair soft and manageable.

CURL ABILITY

One of the most important aspects of curl care is to maintain a healthy balance between protein and moisture.

This allows your hair to reach its optimal potential and the All Curls Conditioner does a great job of providing this balance.

Whilst hydrating, the coconut oil also acts as a protein mimicker which helps restore the balance between protein and moisture.

The All Curls Conditioner is a great conditioner for Curly Girls. Not only does your hair feel silky smooth and nourished after using, but its consistency keeps curls loose and bouncy.

Many Curly Girls have reported that their curls have returned after using the All Curls Conditioner and that their hair has become easier to manage.

It works well with other styling products and doesn’t leave any product residue. Curls remain intact and are soft and frizz-free.

The result? Bouncy and defined curls.
