Faith In Nature is a popular green beauty brand who focus on naturally derived ingredients. They are known for their organic soap bars which are 100% plastic-free and of course for their conditioners which are free from artificial preservatives. But is Faith In Nature conditioner Curly Girl Approved?
Faith in Nature has a wide range of conditioners and the majority of these are Curly Girl Approved. In fact, through my research, I was only able to find one conditioner which was not approved.
This was the Faith in Nature Watermelon Conditioner which contains Cocamidopropyl betaine, a harsh cleanser.
Luckily, all other conditioners are safe to use and Faith In Nature is a really great brand.
Their values are:
- No animal tested products
- No Genetically Modified ingredients
- No synthetic colouring or fragrances
- No SLES, SLS or Parabens
- No artificial preservatives
- No BPA plastic
- No Methylisothiazolinone (MI)
Choosing the right curly girl approved faith in nature conditioner
So now that you know exactly which conditioner NOT to choose, let’s have a look which Curly Girl Approved Faith in Nature conditioner you SHOULD choose for your hair type.
Whether you’ve just started your Curly Girl journey or you have some experience, you’ll know that finding the right conditioner is key. It’s funny how some brands can have such similar ingredients, yet the smallest variation can change how your hair feels or behaves.
If you’re going through the transition phase, it is good to first understand your hair type and whether your hair is balanced, in need of protein or in need of moisture. Then you can find the right conditioner for you.
I wrote an article about the differences between protein treatments and deep conditioning treatments, but in general, the signs are:
- Curls form as they should
- Minimal frizz
- Hair feels hydrated and strong
Lack of Protein
- Hair is limp and soft
- Hair feels stretchy
- Curls have stopped forming
Lack of Moisture
- Dry and brittle hair
- Hair breaks easily
- Curls don’t stretch
- Hair feels like straw
- Curls won’t clump together
When I started my own curly girl journey, I had very good results right off the bat. But around 4-5 months in, my hair started feeling dry, my curls dropped and I didn’t really understand why.
Here’s a photo of my hair when I started vs six months in:
You can see that my curls had significantly dropped.
I then read about doing an apple cider vinegar rinse. This is a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water and you just massage it into wet hair and leave for about five minutes.
I did the ACV rinse and finished off with a non-protein conditioner and this is my hair after:
The ACV rinse did wonders for my hair and I’ve since kept it up once a month.
But I also truly believe that figuring out that I was suffering from protein overload has helped me chose my products more carefully. I no longer used coconut-based products (coconut is a protein mimicker) or heavy products that feel oily or creamy.
I also have low porosity hair so product tends to sit on my hair rather than penetrate. This is why hydration is super key for me to maintain a healthy scalp and curls.
Based on the symptoms above, I would recommend that you follow a routine for one to two weeks and see how you get on. If you think you may be sensitive to protein, use products without protein and coconut. If you need protein, do a protein hair mask once every two weeks.
But most importantly, just follow the method. Don’t use heat, don’t use towels and don’t brush your hair. I really believe that above all things, the method itself is the key to success.
Top 3 Curly Girl approved Faith In nature conditioner products
Based on my own hair type, my top three recommended curly girl approved Faith in Nature conditioners are:
Give these a go if you think your hair type is similar to mine or take a look below where I have outlined which products are good for which hair types.
Faith in Nature Conditioner products with a protein boost
Both of the below recommended conditioners are made with coconut oil.
According to the ncbi, a study showed that the only oil able to penetrate hair was coconut oil! How amazing is that? Protein is essential for healthy hair and it’s important to maintain a good balance between moisture and protein.
The Faith in Nature Coconut conditioner and the Coconut & Frangipani Moisture Boost conditioner both smell incredible and will give you an added boost of protein. Ensure that you massage the product into your scalp. I always use a scalp massager as this eliminates product build-up and removes dirt as well as loose hair.
Moisturising Faith in Nature conditioners for protein sensitive hair
If you have protein sensitive hair, you’ll want to go for conditioners which are hydrating and add moisture to your hair.
Try the Faith In Nature Avocado Conditioner which contains anti-oxidant vitamin E and avocado oil. Or perhaps the Faith in Nature Aloe Vera Conditioner which contains aloe vera which is known for its rejuvenating qualities.
You may also like to try and restore the PH balance in your hair and the Faith in Nature Seaweed & Citrus Conditioner would be great for this. This conditioner contains seaweed which is known for its antioxidant qualities and lemon which is great for a detoxifying wash.
Curly Girl Approved Faith in Nature Conditioner products for balanced hair
If you have balanced hair, you don’t need to worry too much about which conditioner to choose.
Of course, not every product is going to agree with your hair, and there’s a chance you may develop symptoms of either protein sensitivity or moisture overload.
