How To Wash Scrunchies

The first thing to do is to identify what kind of fabric your scrunchies are made from.

This will help you get a clearer picture of how you should go about washing your scrunchies and will prolong their usage and lifespan.

There are so many different materials used in making scrunchies these days. These materials range from silk to cotton, to corduroy and sometimes linen.

There are essentially two ways of washing scrunchies. They are; machine washing and hand washing.

Now, it goes without saying that there are some scrunchies that can be machine washed while others cannot.

It really depends on the kind of material they are made from. Scrunchies that cannot be washed with a machine should be washed with your hands.

Scrunchies made from the following material should be hand-washed:

  • Linen
  • Rayon
  • Silk
  • Wool

Scrunchies made from the following material should be machine-washed:

  • Cotton
  • Acetate
  • Spandex
  • Acrylic
  • Nylon
  • Polyester

Let’s take a closer look at the two ways in which you can wash your scrunchies.

How To Hand-Wash Scrunchies

Hand-washing your scrunchies is really easy, and the best part about it is that there are lots of ways you can go about it. You can use the following ways for hand-washing scrunchies:

  • Handwash in the sink
  • Handwash in a large plastic bowl
  • Handwash in a plastic container

You can use regular shampoo or laundry detergent to wash your scrunchies with, but the best thing to get is detergent designed for handwashing fabrics.

Not only will these detergents get the stain out, but they will also keep your scrunchies looking and smelling fresh.

Instructions:

1. Empty the dirty scrunchies into a sink, container, or bowl

4. Wash them with your hands thoroughly

5. Add clean cold cold water and rinse the scrunchies thoroughly.

Then lay them out to dry on top of a towel. Place the towel with scrunchies beside a window with some sunlight for a faster drying process.

How To Machine-Wash Scrunchies

If you have scrunchies that can be washed with a machine, then you should wash them this way.

However, be sure not to just throw those scrunchies in the machine, otherwise, you may never see them again and it could also cause a lot of problems for the machine.

You should definitely take note of this, especially if you make use of a communal laundry room!

Place your scrunchies in a sock, a lingerie bag or a net bag, and tie it up carefully before throwing it in the machine for washing.

I use these Gogooda laundry machine mesh bags I found on Amazon.

Of course, any sock does the trick, just make sure to tie it properly.

Drying Your Scrunchies

After washing, here are a few ways to dry your scrunchies.

1. Air dry

Squeeze out the excess water after rinsing the scrunchies and then place them in a bowl. Leave outside to dry.

You could also lay them out on a towel and place them beside a window or anywhere you can get sunlight so that they dry faster.

Note that air-drying your scrunchies is a lot slower than when meet you use a machine dryer.

Alternatively, you can as well hang your scrunchies and dry them inside your house.

2. Machine dry

After washing with a machine or perhaps your hands, you can place these semi-dried scrunchies ( that is if you used a machine to wash them) in your dryer and dry it.

It usually takes less time to dry with a machine than when you air dry them.

But remember don’t throw your scrunchies into the dryer just like that. Make sure you bag them before drying.

Here is how you can care for your scrunchies:

How To Use Scrunchies

Scrunchies are an excellent accessory and can work so well for many different hairstyles.

They are particularly great for women with curly hair as the scrunchie’s soft material helps protect the definition of the curls.

Here are a few ways you can utilize scrunchies:

1. Use Whilst Sleeping To Protect Your Hair

If you are a follower of the Curly Girl Method, you’ll know the importance of maintaining your curls at night.

You may already know about the benefits of using a silk satin cap or silk pillows, but you can also use satin scrunchies like these to tie your hair up into a pineapple.

2. Use For Ponytails And Buns To Avoid Hair Breaking

If you suffer from hair breakage or have fine hair, you’ll want to use a scrunchie instead of a hair tie when styling your hair.

Hair ties are notorious for causing damage and split ends so a scrunchie made from soft materials will really benefit your hair.
